Methi na gota

Methi na gota or methi pakora is a gujarati deep fried snack. For those who don’t know, methi is fenugreek leaves and gota means pakoda. So methi na gota = fenugreek leaves pakoda. This is yummy snack goes very well with teatime. You can have this with onions, Fried green chilies or kadhi. I want to eat it with kadhi so I am showing you that recipe too.

Ingredients

  • For Gota:
  • Methi leaves – 2 Bunchs
  • Green chili – 3
  • Oil – 1TBS hot oil for better + for frying
  • Turmeric powder – ½ TSP
  • Salt – As per taste
  • Coriander-cumin powder – 2 TSP
  • Red chili powder – 1 ½ TSP
  • Garam masala – ½ TSP
  • Sugar – 1 ½ TBS
  • Water – 2 Cups
  • Chickpea (Besan) Flour – 4 Cups
  • Lime juice – from ½ Lime
  • Baking powder – ½ TSP
  • For Kadhi:
  • Butter milk – 1½ Cup
  • Chickpea (Besan) flour – ¼ Cup
  • Turmeric powder – Pinch
  • Oil – 1TSP
  • Mustard seeds – ¼ TSP
  • Cumin seeds – ¼ TSP
  • Asafetida – Pinch
  • Green chili – 1
  • Curry leaves – 3 to 4
  • Salt – As per taste
  • Sugar – 1 TBS (Optional)
  • Cilantro – For garnishing

Method

  • For Gota:
  • Cut the methi leaves from bunch cut it in small and wash it.
  • Now add all dry spices and chickpea flour, water and mix well.
  • Now heat up oil and when it’s hot add 1TBS of oil and lime juice to gota mixture.
  • At last add baking powder and mix well.
  • Start to place small gota in hot oil and fry them on medium flame for 2-3 minutes.
  • Serve it hot with kadhi, fried chilies, onions, yogurt, ketchup or whatever way you like.
  • For Kadhi:
  • Mix buttermilk, besan and turmeric powder until lumps breakdown.
  • Heat oil and add, mustard seeds, cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  • Now add green chilies, curry leaves and asafetida to it.
  • Add better of buttermilk, salt and sugar to it.
  • Mix it well.
  • Give one boil and off your stove.
  • Garnish it with cilantro.
